Kimi Räikkönen says he was pleased with his introduction to Formula 1's new technical regulations on Tuesday.
The Finn, who is embarking upon a second spell with Ferrari, comfortably topped the opening day of testing at Jerez, clocking a time of 1:27.104 to lead Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton by more than seven tenths of a second.
"We had a lot of new things to learn today," said Räikkönen, who also led the mileage charts on 31 laps.
"Even if we would have liked to do more laps, for a first day it was alright. At the end, when the track was damp, we did not want to take any risks.
"Now we have a lot of work ahead of us, but all in all, we are pleased with our first day."
Räikkönen is scheduled to stay at the wheel on Wednesday, before handing over to Fernando Alonso.
